Quad Channel Mixed Signal Oscilloscope

BS442 is BitScope's network connected multichannel Mixed Signal Oscilloscope and data acquisition instrument.

Key features:

  • 4 Analog Channels (8 inputs via BNC & POD).
  • Deep capture (128kS) all channels at once.
  • 8 logic/timing channels and Smart POD.
  • 40MS/s Logic Analyzer, 25nS capture.
  • 100 MHz Analog Channel Bandwidth.
  • Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer.
  • Mixed Signal Data Recorder.
  • Networked and Isolated.
  • Software Libraries.

BS442 combines 4 independent analog channels and 8 time synchronized logic channels in one powerful test instrument.

Consider modern embedded systems, component video, 3-phase motor control, process control, 3D robotics, and automotive systems.
All need more than two channels and several synchronized timing channels to see the big picture.

This is why we designed BS442; because two analog channels are sometimes just not enough.

BitScope 442 MSO

Low Profile Design

BS442's sleek design in a low profile case makes for an unobtrustive test instrument perfect for workshop, lab or factory floor.

The front panel provides access to the analog and logic inputs and includes 50 ohm termination switches for each BNC input. On the back panel are the 12VDC power socket, Ethernet connector and a ground reference.

Capture LEDs on the front panel provide live visual feedback of capture operation and network connection, data and power LEDs on the back indicate power and comms status for the scope.

Expandable MultiScope Software

Included with BS442 is the same powerful BitScope DSO test and measurement application used by other BitScope models.

BitScope DSO Software (BS442)

However when connected to BS442, DSO configures to handle the full range of features found only in the BS442 instrument.

For example, with BS442 the DSO presents a familiar digital oscilloscope but with 4 analog channels shown on a larger display.

Likewise if multiple scopes are connected to the same network the DSO can be used to control all of them from the one PC.

The virtual instrument and split screen display buttons down the right side of the application allow for selection from an array of multichannel integrated test instruments in addition to the 4 channel digital oscilloscope.

Whether its measuring phase relationships between multiple analog signals or displaying spectrum and waveform of up to 4 channels at once, or performing high speed timing analysis on up to 12 channels simultaneously, BS442 is the right solution.

Analog Probes

Like all BitScopes, BS442 is compatible with industry standard oscilloscope probes.

BitScope Analog Probes (BS442)

The BitScope PRB-03 (pictured left) is a good choice for higher voltage work as it offers x100 input attenuation, insulated connectors and high input impedance.

Other choices are available such as the x1/x10 switchable attenuating PRB-01 designed for lower voltage and general purpose work.

Both models include a full accessory kit, have 100 MHz bandwidth (or greater) and may be calibrated to compensate attenuating ranges.

Of course if you already have standard 100 MHz scope probes they will work with BS442 which is why probes are optional when buying BitScope.

Logic Probes and Hardware Expansion

Like all BitScopes, BS442 has a Smart POD expansion connector on the front panel.
This is where you can connect high speed buffered logic probes such as LP103W.

BitScope Logic Probes (BS442)

Design for use with TTL, 3.3V and 5V CMOS logic, these probes also provide test clip access to the 4 additional analog inputs provided on BS442's connector.

Of course the POD connector is not just for connecting logic probes. It can also be used for special function and software controlled signal processing modules such as waveform generators, RF convertors and probes.

The key to this capability is the POD connector's 12V and 5V power, ground and serial I/O pins. This makes it possible to connect your own circuits to BS442 with the BitScope providing power, serial control and data capture for your own circuits.

Networking and Data Acquisition

BS442 is a network connected test and measurement instrument.

This means you can connect to a PC via its ethernet port or a USB port (with an adaptor).

But BitScope Networking offers a great deal more than this. It means remote connection between the PC and the BitScope via a local LAN (or the Internet) is possible. It also means you can share one BS442 between several PCs or control multiple BS442 from one (or more) PC(s).

By virtue of its ethernet connectivity BS442 is also fully electrically isolated (to the same standard as ethernet itself). This can be important in high voltage applications or noisy environments.

The ability to use BS442 anywhere in the world where there is an available network connection also makes it ideal for remote data acquisition and telemetry applications. That is, a PC or notebook is not required to be located near a BS442. All that is required is a source of 12V DC and a network connection with a route to the PC regardless of where the operator is located.

To make using BS442 with third party data acquisition systems and numerical analysis tools easy, communications and programming libraries are available. Compatible with Microsoft Windows (2000/XP) and Linux, these libraries make using BS442 with third party software tools simple.
